The Wedding Tea Party – Autumn Affair

IMG (88)

I recently hosted a Wedding Tea Party strictly for brides ( not exactly strictly as there was a poor groom-to-be nestled amon

gst the roses ). The aim was to have a cozy afternoon of sipping teas andtalk all about weddings. I previously hosted The Wedding Tribe which was more like a one-stop shop for indie vendors, gathering of 12 different vendors in a venue. This time round, I wanted something more interactive and engaging. Not just for the attendees but also for vendors themselves. We have always been in our own roles, so its good to understand other roles and see how we can complement each other. The highlight was definitely being able to exchange thoughts, hence we incorporated Speakers and dialogue sessions.

MINGLING SESSION & MINI MAKEOVERS

Brides were encouraged to mingle around with the other brides. Indulge with hair blow-outs and quick mani and pedi with Kiyone+Lim and Itto+Lim. Having small bites and discussing dresses over teas. These vendors are also curated for Wedding purposes, Kiyone provides Wedding-centric manis outside of their quirky usual nail arts that are so subtle yet beautiful . Itto+Lim does not only provide your day-to-day hair dream but also does wedding hairdos and makeup. Wedding knots by lavish also provide the yummy treats and other catering services whereas Nilufer Tea is an artisan organic tea house that wishes more brides will opt for beautiful tea favours to present to their guests. One special mention would be XOXO & CO. who provided the beautiful Tiffany and Ghost Chairs, they literally saved the day! I had only assorted 15 chairs and were expecting 25 of you so I had to call her one day before the event! I have worked with XOXO a couple of times and have gathered quite a few good feedbacks from my clients. Having friendors ( friends + vendors ) like this is definitely handy!

THE REASON BEING ALL BRIDES ONLY

well, boys boys boys. Most of the Singaporean boys are not very helpful when it comes to aesthetics stuff. When you ask them which one is nicer? they can’t even tell the difference. Give them a series of pink, they are going to tell you they look the same. When it comes to flowers, worst! They will ask if its even needed since its going to die in a day. This was why I created TWTP just for brides, girls have so much to talk about and imagine if all the brides are gathered together they can do their research and learn from each others studies, its a win-win situation. I had in mind a community of brides willing to share their experiences and hard ways and that was what happened at TWTP. I saw brides exchanging phone numbers and making friends.

GUEST SPEAKERS

Speaking out is a good way to let others know me and my style for sure. If you were there, you would have known that I am not someone who mince my words and hold back. But I do exercise thoughts into my somewhat strong vocabulary, what I said had to be CONSTRUCTIVE. Its not meant to be insulting, it might not what brides want to hear but it is better to come from your stylist than a guest on your wedding day. E.g “eh that dress makes her a** looks big.” Don’t you wish someone had told you that? Yup, that is my job. If I have a knack at what I do, I must say my knack is being able to put things visually in my head. What goes with what, what colours compliment each other. And WHAT DOESN’T GO WITH WHAT. This seems to be a bigger problem in our wedding community, all brides want everything pretty but they can’t seem to visualise if all of the pretty items match each other.

TWTP was also all about individuality, straying away from cookie cutter weddings. Vendors alike, we do not want to replicate nor reproduce but we are open to create and innovate. My creations stem from you, I want to do something that suits you. Not just pulling visuals from Pinterest and replicate.

Wilson from AndroidsinBoots spoke at the party as well, he was one of the first indie photographers that did styled shoots and recognised the importance of a good team. With the same mindset that photoshoots should be YOU, he also does short consult with the couples before shooting them. He shared a few tips on how to achieve best photo outcomes and apparently bringing your groom-to-be out of Singapore is a great way. I guess thats when they feel like its a place that no one recognises them so they can relax and pose!

Cheryl from Wedding Concepteur joined in to address a few issues they always encounter and most importantly what is the key difference between a planner and a stylist. A wedding planner is good when you have no clue how to start, she already has a network of contacts and preferred partners. She does your timeline and advise on your budget. There are occasions when I witnessed break downs between couples, this can be avoided if there are proper communications and Cheryl did emphasise ways to avoid that and most importantly pre-empt them. And sometimes, it is just better for an objective point of view.

Q&A

The panel discussion was the most anticipated but also the most nerve-wrecking! I realised Singaporeans don’t like to ask questions in a group but only face-to-face. Well, we have to change that people! There are really no stupid questions, and you asking questions may benefit other participants or spark off a series of other questions as well. Lucky I did a series of polling on IG story the days before. There were really awesome questions asked, one was “what is the benefit of hiring a stylist vs. DIY-ing?”. Another was: ” if I hire the stylist, will the stylist compromise the bride or is it vice versa?”.

Gather more of your questions cos I think we might want to do more of this!

Meanwhile, here are some more photo Androids took for the day!
